New Learning Resource Centre

A New Learning Resource Centre for Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School

Brand new learning spaces are planned for Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School as we address critical challenges to our estate in the run-up our 500th anniversary in 2027.  These spaces will enable us to bring our school environment up to the same level of excellence as the education we have been delivering for centuries.

Central to our plans is a new Learning Resource Centre, set over three floors at the front of the School. It will provide flexible dedicated Sixth Form study space enriched with IT facilities; a new whole-school dining room and library plus new classrooms and space adaptable to study, social activities and out of hours community use.

This new facility will free up other areas of the school for refurbishment, the first of which will deliver a state-of-the-art Computer Suite in the main School, consisting of two classrooms equipped to the highest specification.

We aim to have these new facilities open in September 2025.

Learning Resource Centre Overview

The LRC will enable us to expand our Sixth Form, opening more opportunities for students beyond BVGS, ensuring that we sustain the gender balance, and importantly, serve more disadvantaged students from across the regions, building our social capital. It will also attract more funding for the School.

Flexible social space will be available to our community our of school hours which as well as generating income for the school, will improve well-being, foster talent and support businesses.

Our new building will be informed by ’green’ principles and will provide BVGS students with ‘hands-on’ learning opportunities about sustainable architecture and building processes

The Lower Ground Floor

The Lower Ground Floor will be a flexible space adaptable to both study and social activities, that can also be used for workshops, presentations, drama and community use.

This floor will be eventually linked to the Grade II listed School House, which when completed, will become a new entrance for students to the School.

The Upper Ground Floor

The Upper Ground Floor provides a flexible Sixth Form study space, which can be configured to suit private study, collaborative working and innovation, helping our students to hone the skills they will need for higher education and working life.

A new dining room, leading out on to external green spaces and connected to the existing dining facilities will enable year groups to mingle during break times.

Eventually, this floor will also be linked to the old School House.

The First Floor

Dedicated Economics classrooms rooms on the First Floor will enable more students to study this increasingly popular and important subject in state-of-the-art facilities.

A new library for the whole school will provide valuable research and study space for all year groups.
