Alumni Visit - Winston Powell

It was a pleasure to welcome back alumnus Winston Powell to school this week.

Winston, an international gymnast and member of the British Gymnastics Senior National Squad, spoke to our Sixth Form students about resilience, controlling nerves, and performing under pressure.

Drawing on his experiences in elite sport, he shared practical insights on how the same mindset applies to exam preparation, interviews, and life beyond school. One key message that really resonated strongly with pupils was: “trust your preparation when it comes to performance.”

Winston’s honesty about the challenges he’s faced made his talk especially impactful, helping pupils see how discipline, focus, and learning from setbacks can make the difference when it matters most.

Winston also spoke about his podcast, The Game of Gymnastics, where he explores the realities of high-performance sport and the mindset required to succeed.
