Sixth Form Internal and External Applications
Our Sixth Form consists of students from a wide range of educational backgrounds, including those from the comprehensive, grammar and independent sectors. We admit a minimum of 80 students from other schools to our Sixth Form each year alongside a significant proportion of those students who have studied in Year 11 at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School.
Important dates in our application process:
- Monday 29th September – Tickets to Sixth Form Open Evening available to book here.
- Thursday 27th November 2025 – Sixth Form Open Evening.
- Friday 28th November 2025 – Application form opens.
- Tuesday 20th January 2026 – Application form closes. No further applications will be accepted after this date.
- Thursday 20th August 2026 – GCSE Results Day. Applicants must submit GCSE results and we will make offers according to our Admissions Policy.
You should read the Sixth Form section of our 2026 Admissions Policy carefully to understand the mechanism for admitting students in Year 12. Below are some of the important points:
- Entrance to the Sixth Form is based upon a student’s ‘Best 8’ score across their highest GCSE results which must include English Language and Mathematics. Other qualifications such as BTEC and Level 3 Additional Mathematics are converted to an equivalent GCSE grade.
- A minimum of 52 points is required for entry into the Sixth Form and at least a Grade 5 in English Language and Mathematics. A Best 8 score of at least 66 points is required to study four A Levels.
- At least a Grade 7 in the most closely-related GCSE subject is required to study a subject at A Level. A Grade 8 in GCSE Mathematics is require for A Level Mathematics.
In the case that more applicants achieve 52 points in their Best 8 score, the oversubscription criteria are as follows:
- Priority is given to students who are in Year 11 at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School. We will, however, admit a minimum of 80 students from other schools.
- Following this we will consider Looked After Children and then students who have been eligible for the Pupil Premium in Year 11.
- Remaining applicants will be ranked according to their Best 8 score and offers will be made according to this order providing there is still space in an applicant’s chosen subjects.
The tiebreak criteria for those equal on Best 8 score are given in our Admissions Policy.
