Pastoral Care

Sally Arrandale – KS3 Learning Mentor

I work with students, their families, school staff and other professional agencies, to help students to develop their potential by removing barriers to learning. A barrier to learning is any factor that prevents a student from being in a suitable emotional, physical or psychological state to engage in their lessons and learn.

What I do:-

* Work with students to develop action plans for moving forward
* Set targets around issues such as behaviour and attendance
* Make provision for students to work on coursework, homework, revision, organisation and study skills
* Offer guidance and support with personal and domestic issues
* Provide opportunities for students to develop self esteem and confidence
* Work collaboratively with other professionals to support students and their parents and carers
* Coordinate, develop and run groups on issues such as conflict, mediation, anger management
* Run workshops on spelling, literacy and handwriting
* Provide assistance in the classroom for individuals or small groups

How students can see me:-

* Referral by a head of year, form tutor or class teacher
* Referral by a parent/carer
* Just drop in to Room 2, the Learning Mentors’ Office, at break, lunchtime or before school

Additional Information:
If students wish for further information on issues such as Mental Health, Domestic Violence, Bereavement and Sex and Relationships but are nervous about talking to someone then there are leaflets/information posters around the school signposting students to different organisations/charities/agencies and outside Miss Steadman's/Miss Gilbert’s office.
