Year 7

There are two main points of entry to the school, at Year 7 (first year) level and into the Sixth Form. From time to time vacancies arise in other years. Admission in these cases is by means of a test at the school. Parents are requested to contact the school for an application for a Change of School (In - Year) Form to be completed and returned. 

YEAR 7 ENTRY TO GRAMMAR SCHOOLS IN BIRMINGHAM FOR SEPTEMBER 2017 ONWARDS

For entry to selective schools in September 2017 is only for those children born between, 1 September 2005 – 31 August 2006 who are eligible to take the optional selective test.

Within Birmingham there is one optional selective tests a child can sit.  Selective tests are held for places at one of the grammar schools within The Grammar Schools in Birmingham.

* King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys & Girls
* King Edward VI Five Ways (Boys & Girls)
* King Edward VI Handsworth School (Girls)

* Handsworth Grammar School

The admission process timetable for Year 7 entry in September 2017 is as follows:

Admission Packs and Test Registration forms available from May 2016
Disability Forms to be returned no later 15th June 2016
Closing date for receipt of Test Registration forms Friday 8th July 2016 at 4.00pm
Grammar Schools Entrance Test Date = Saturday 10th September 2016
Grammar Schools Test results = 14th October 2016  *Note: This is not the offer of a place* 
***Local Authority Preference Form deadline = End of October each year
Offers = 1st March 2017 or next working day.

The optional test form must be returned by Friday 8th July 2016 at 4.00pm to  - The Grammar Schools in Birmingham,  Applications, Edgbaston Park Road, Birmingham, B15 2UD. 

 *** The Local Authority Preference Form must be completed and returned by End of October each year. These are distributed through primary schools or available through your home Local Authority (LA). The Grammar Schools in Birmingham does not issue LA preference forms.***

The optional test will take place on Saturday 10th September 2016.

The optional test for entry to the Consortium of Grammar Schools in Birmingham – there are two exams each of approximately 45 minutes in duration.
Papers will be divided into smaller individually timed sections which tests;
* Verbal Reasoning
* Non Verbal Reasoning
* Reading Comprehension/literacy skills

* Mathematics
Some of the questions will take a multiple choice format. A sample of questions will be included in the brochure which will be sent on receipt of your completed application form.

Allocation of Places
Bishop Vesey's Grammar School no longer has a residence requirement, Pupils are admitted on the basis of their performance in the test. Applicants are ranked according to their test score and then:

 Priority will be given to:

  •  Looked after children and previously looked after children who achieve a qualifying score;
  • A limited number of children (32) registered for Pupil Premium (those who are/have been registered for free school meals or have received them at any  point in the past six years) who achieve a qualifying score and then;
  • Those who live nearest to the school (only where test scores are equal)
